New Recruits 309-1104 (16 November 2018)

A number of mercenaries have recently arrived from the GZG system. I'm going to split them up into two forces, one painted with a standard uniform, and one painted with a mix of uniforms. The uniformed mercs will be used as TL7-9 Mercenaries with GZG light wheeled vehicles (air-transportable and the new up-armoured ones). I'll use the rest as irregulars, either undisciplined mercenaries or well equipped rebels, equipped at TL 7-9.

SG15-M01 Mercs rifles pack A - 8 figures, 2 each of 4 sculpts: 3 male figures and 1 female figure, all with various rifles and headgear (beret, field caps, bareheaded).

The guy on the right is supposed to have an assault rifle of some sort, but it looks a lot like a Pancor Jackhammer (a 12 gauge automatic shotgun).

SG15-M02 Mercs rifles pack B - 8 figures, 2 each of 4 sculpts: all female figures, with various rifles, all bareheaded.

There are a lot of female figures in this range, making for a bit of diversity amongst your mercs.

SG15-M03 Mercs rifles pack C - 8 figures, 2 each of 4 sculpts: all male figures, with various rifles, all bareheaded.

SG15-M04 Mercs squad support pack with SAWs/LMGs - 8 figures, 2 each of 4 sculpts: male and female figures advancing, male and female figures prone firing.

SG15-M05 Mercs squad support pack with RPGs/LAWs - 8 figures, 2 each of 4 sculpts: mix of male and female figures in various soft headgear, two with RPGs and two with Light Antitank Weapons.

SG15-M06 Mercs snipers/marksmen pack - 8 figures, 2 each of 4 sculpts: mix of male and female figures in various soft headgear (or bareheaded), all carrying sniper rifles.

SG15-M07 Mercs with assorted rifles (male troops) in helmets - 8 figures, 2 each of 4 different sculpts. All have a generic "bonedome" type combat helmet with half-visor over eyes.

SG15-M08 Mercs with assorted rifles (Female troops) in helmets - 8 figures, 2 each of 4 different sculpts. All have a generic "bonedome" type combat helmet with half-visor over eyes.

SG15-M09 Mercs with SAWs and LMGs (male and female troops) in helmets - 8 figures, 2 each of 4 different sculpts. All have a generic "bonedome" type combat helmet with half-visor over eyes.

SG15-M10 Mercs with RPGs and LAWs (male and female troops) in helmets - 8 figures, 2 each of 4 different sculpts. All have a generic "bonedome" type combat helmet with half-visor over eyes.

There's quite a a variety of weapons amongst this lot. At least five different types of rifle, an automatic shotgun, two types of SAW, two types of AT launcher and two types of sniper rifle. I wanted some uniformity amongst the weapons, so I've split them into two forces based largely on the weapon types. Amongst the rifles there are two types that are the most common, the first is a standard configuration assault rifle, and the second is a bullpup assault rifle. Classic Traveller defines the Advanced Combat Rifle as having a bullpup configuration amongst other things. So we have a standard assault rifle TL6-9 and an advanced combat rifle at TL10. There are a few other bullpup configuration rifles as well, but there is only about 4 of each.

I gave the regular mercenaries the ACR, LAW and M60-ish SAW. The Irregular mercs/insurgents got the Assault Rifle, Pancor Jackhammer, RPG and the other type of SAW. Each force has a different model of sniper rifle and a some different rifles. The different rifles are all bullpup which means that the Irregular Mercs/Insurgents must be on the high end of the 6-9 TL range, let's call it TL9, while the Regular Mercs will be TL10.

Since the Irregulars have about eight Pancor Jackhammers, and these are only really effective at Close (SGII) or Optimum (TW) range, I'm guessing that they tend to engage targets at close/optimum range frequently, perhaps in urban or jungle warfare.

I've got about ten light wheeled vehicles some are the air-portable type, and others are the up-armoured variety, all are from GZG. These have been assigned to the regular mercenaries, as a cheap transport option, grav vehicles would obviously be more flexible but cost more. Wheeled vehicles are relatively fast and reasonably priced.

Each force has eight fire-teams of four men, each fire-team has a SAW, AT Launcher, and two rifles (excepting those irregular teams with a Jackhammer, who have only one rifle). Each force has four sniper teams made up of one sniper and his spotter; And each force has a command team consisting of an officer, sergeant and two specialists (GZGs Generic Command Pack).

I may do some shuffling around, perhaps reorganising the RPGs and SAWS into AT and MG teams. But the figures on each force will remain unchanged. I thought of using the Insurgents from Oddzial Ozmy to flesh out the Irregular Mercs/Insurgents but they're too different.

  1. Good stuff! I'll have to get those too one day (like everything else from GZG)
