Caught Up

My last order to arrive was a mixed bag from Ground Zero Games, actually it was two orders made on the same day. The first included a mix of figures I'd had my eye on for a while. After I ordered I went to the home page and lo and behold, NEW SCULPTS!!!!! OutRim Coalition, ESU, Islamic Federation and some new NSL Jägers. I couldn't resist and placed a second order. Jon put them all into one box and sent them out. They arrived exactly 14 days later. UK Post seems to be faster than US post for some reason or maybe it's a case of faster processing of orders. Perhaps it's just Jon, I'll be able to test it soon, I have a Brigade Models order coming soon.

Anyway onto the figures.
The first order included a number of packs from Jon's Human Characters and Misc. Aliens section. I ordered the two Free Trader Crew and Passengers packs, they make for good civilians to rescue or civilian crews (smugglers?) during a customs inspection gone wrong, perhaps. Weaponry is quite varied and distinctly Traveller(ish), revolvers, carbines, auto pistols, shotguns and SMGs.

A variety of weapons and gear, ideal for Traveller or civilian combatants in your wargames.

Crew and passengers. You have to have civilians to rescue from the alien menace.

the two Ravagers packs, ideal for pirate boarding actions, crime gangs, resistance fighters etc. The greatcoats and long hair give them a piratical air.

 Space Pirates, with longarms Yarrrgh!!!!!

 Space Pirates, with sidearms Yarrrgh!!!!!

and the two Alien Mercenaries packs. Originally I thought these two packs were of two different species, but upon inspecting them I see that they are the same species, big bruisers with floppy ears, deep set eyes, beneath sloping brows. Rather similar to the Mangalore who scared the crap out of Ruby Rod. Thus they could be considered as the adult version of Rebel Minis' Kurgen who have much the same appearance but are considerably smaller in stature and girth. Other possibilities include the GZG figures being a mutant strain or the Rebel Minis' figures being a degenerate offshoot species. I've yet to decide which.

Twelve rather brutish warriors with really big guns.

another twelve brutish warriors with really big guns.

Two RM Kurgen with three larger GZG Alien Mercs.

From the Civilians, Colonists, Cops, etc, section I ordered the Survey Team Personnel pack, suited up and geared up to conduct all sorts of surveying missions,
All they need now is a squad of troopers to escort them to the target area.

the Humanoid Servant Bots pack androids, gynoids and heavy lift bots.

Two heavy lift droids, two male and two female form droids, open to a variety of programming options, medical, personal assistant, protocol droid.

and WorkBots pack 1, cleaning droids, maintenance droids, astromechs?

and both pack A and B Security/Combat Robots from the Robots section. These guys are being added to the Consensus forces, an AI civilisation within the Synod of Worlds which provides the bulk of the forces for the war against the Fallen. (see Art of War Games for source material). A different design from the skelebots and the service bots (see above). Very different and considerably larger than the Rebel Minis' Scourge. Still they'll make a good addition to the Consensus Forces, as an upgraded infantry model.

 Support weapons bots.

Front line infantry bots.

As usual these figures are very detailed, the variety of poses is good and the number of different figure ranges provides plenty of scope for varied gaming. I may be a little prejudiced because the majority of my figures are from GZG, but I do love these figures, they're chunky and hefty compared with some other manufacturers offerings, and the detail is sometimes quite astonishing.

I also like the 'humanity', if you will, of the figures. Most of GZGs infantry figures have visible faces or at least partially visible faces. The full face helmet is usually reserved for Power Armour or Vacc Suits. This lends the figures more character in my opinion, probably contributing to my prejudice towards GZG figures.

I'll deal with the new sculpts in my next post.

Five Alpha, out.
