As a child Dandy had a chip on his shoulder about his name. As a young man he regarded his father as an idiot for naming him Dandy. By the time he was eighteen he’d gotten used to the name, but was still a bit touchy about it. When it came time for him to choose a career, he deliberately chose the Zeus Marines Corps (ZMC) rather than follow his father into the Vheri Colonial Army (VCA), just to get even with the old bugger. He was almost rejected but his physique and obvious strength impressed the recruiters.

Being the son of a nobleman and having an odd name, pretty much singled him out for special treatment from his peers. To compensate he pushed himself during training to be better than the rest of the recruits, particularly with the cutlass. He learned fast and his strength gave him an edge over many of his peers and rapidly acquired a fearsome reputation with the cutlass (Cutlass-2). His training also taught him the varied applications of shotgun shells during boarding actions (Shotgun-1). Both were skills he would put to use many times in future.

Several years later Dandy was engaged in a hostage rescue mission requiring the use of some specialist equipment (Grav Belt-1). The success of this mission brought him to the attention of his superiors, and earned him a commission as a lieutenant of marines. Unbeknownst to him, Dandy had also earned the gratitude of one of the hostages rescued. The former saw him attend an officer candidates course at the Naval Base on Zeus (Revolver-1 and Tactics-1), while the latter would result in him receiving a TAS membership many years later.

For a while he spent time as a driver for various dignitaries, learning how to handle ground vehicles of varying types, (ATV-1). These duties led to him being assigned a command of his own during his next posting (Leader-1). It was during that command he started to feel the first inklings that he was passing his prime (Ageing: -1 DEX).

Always hopeful of promotion, Dandy continued to reenlist despite the growing feeling that the Marines were a young man’s game (Ageing: -1 STR and -1 END). He constantly exercised to maintain his fitness and keep up with the younger marines (+1 END).

Dandy's continued impeccable service saw him gain a promotion to Captain. Constant exercise (+1 END) helped him keep in the game despite his age creeping up on him (Ageing: -1 STR and -1 END). Trying to keep his eye in with the revolver, he was encouraged to take part in several inter-service firearms competitions and exercises, he didn’t win any awards but he learned a lot (Revolver-2).

Dandy spent his final years of service as a staff officer, mainly due to his age (Ageing: -1 STR). He continued working on his fitness (+1 End) not at all looking forward to mandatory retirement.

Referee: Captain Sir Dandy Madigan (retired) is currently enjoying the hospitality of the TAS Hostel on Zeus, he could be encountered there, or at the Naval Base catching up with comrades still in service. He is still looking for challenges to accept and would be amenable to taking part in or leading a challenging mission. Both to prove that he’s still got it, and for suitable remuneration; his pension alone is not quite up to supporting him in the lifestyle he is accustomed to.
