Islamic Federation
I ordered Khurasan's Neo-Arab Line Infantry Platoon Set a couple of weeks ago, and it arrived today.
Packaging
The figures all came in a small box, which is usual for most manufacturers. Inside the box the figure were in plastic bags but were also further protected by a wad of scrunched up paper to stop the figures moving around in the box.
Each plastic bag was stapled shut and contained one of the individual packs that made up the set.
So far my experience has been that Rebel Minis, Khurasan and Eureka Miniatures use stapled bags, while GZG uses zip lock bags. I prefer the latter, mainly because they are generally more reusable than a stapled bag.
Figures/Models
I generally compare most figures and models to GZG figures and models because they make up the majority of my collection. Furthermore I use Stargrunt II rules for skirmish games, so any reference to rules will be for SGII.
Mould/Casting
The Neo-Arabs appear to have considerable detail and compare well to GZG figures in this regard. There is some flash, suggesting perhaps, aging moulds. And the bases are a tad thin and easily bent compared to those of GZG figures.
Size/Bulk
They seem to be smaller and slimmer than GZG figures. Height wise they stand about 1mm shorter than GZG figures, this appears to be due to the thinner base and can be rectified if needed by raising the figure 1mm on the added base.
Their apparent slim figures is probably due to the Neo-Arabs wearing only light armour. They appear to be wearing simple battle dress, with a ballistic vest of some sort, whereas my GZG figures are NSL panzergrenadiers and they wear bulky full body armour.
Equipment
The Infantry squad as packaged by Khurasan consists of 8 figures, 7 of which carry an assault rifle, (Advanced Assault Rifle FP: 2 IMP: D10) and 1 carries a pistol (Light Pistol (close range only) FP: 1 IMP: D6).
The infantry squad support weapons squad has 8 figures 4 with reloadable RPGs, (IAVR FP: D10 IMP: D12*), and 4 with SAWs (Conventional MG FP: D8 IMP: D10). Both carry light pistols as sidearms. These I split up between the Infantry squads and the Heavy Weapons Squad below.
Heavy Weapons Squad includes 1 light mortar team , 1 tripod mounted HMG team (RFAC/1 IMP: D10), 1 heavy Missile launcher team (GMS/L/1 IMP: D12x2) and a single sniper (a massive weapon, with an ejection port and a scope that's almost as long as the soldier arm. The ejection port rules out laser or gauss, and the size makes it quite large calibre, so I rate it as HAMR FP: D10 IMP: D12x2).
The High Command Set includes an officer (Platoon Commander), a political officer (Fundamentalist Hall Monitor (I don't know what to call these guys, any suggestions?) there is some sort of attachment (like Darth Vader's) on this guys chest, perhaps he's also a suicide bomber awaiting his chance), a driver (HQ Driver), a medic (platoon medic) and a holoprojector with holomap display.
Oh... all personnel wear Light Body Armour vests with shoulder and abdominal protection (Partial Light Armour AV: D6)
Altogether I think these figures are very compatible with GZG miniatures, the detail is good, the size matches fairly closely and their equipment is reasonable in comparison with other forces. All in all a good purchase.
So in My Game Universe, these guys will represent the Islamic Federation, (I plan to sue Rebel Mini's Sahadeen as the Saeed Khalifate, another Islamic Space Nation).
I plan more purchases from Khurasan, I'll review them as I acquire them.
Five Alpha, out.
