New Project

Last Friday we had our usual fortnightly game session, Star Wars using Mongoose Traveller Rules (1st edition). The core group consists of Myself, Jonathon and my son Mark. Mark referees the game, with me (very occasionally) helping with rules. There are a few other players, but they aren't regulars.

Anyway, we got to talking about wargaming, and I asked them what sort of faction they would like to play in a sci-fi imagi-nations campaign. Mark said he would like to play a soviet style Russian faction and Jonathon wanted to play an insurgent or rebel force, with Fremen style to them and possibly some suicide bombers.

So with that in mind and my recent re-reading of the Tomorrow's War rules, I've begun work on an opening scenario set on one of the New Soviet Federation worlds, more than likely New Stalingrad.

The scenario will involve NSF police forces trying to disperse protesting workers, while Jonathon's rebel leaders will be trying to convert those same protesting workers into armed resistance fighters.

To that end I've order a whole bunch of civilians, colonists and cops from GZG, pretty much the entire collection of civilians, colonists, cops, etc. Most of these will be used as individual figures. I have a horde of 1/100 scale railway figures, that are noticeably daintier than most 15mm minaitures, but grouped together on stands they will make nice civilian mobs to be dispersed or converted.

I'm envisioning this scenario starting with mobs of civilians scattered all over the table and the rebel leaders already working on converting them into armed rebels. The police will arrive after a number of turns (1d6) and begin dispersing the mobs and trying to apprehend the rebel leaders and any newly recruited rebel fighters.

This will be the beginning of the rebellion on New Stalingrad. I'm expecting the police to have a difficult time of it, which isn't really fair on the police player (Mark), but then again the rebellion must initially be successful for the campaign to get off the ground.

New Stalingrad itself will be developed using some of Nordic Weasel Games' books, such as 'Every Star an Opportunity' and 'Not Just a Brush War', and probably even FFE's Traveller.

Long live the Revolution!
