New Vistula Legion
I picked up a bunch of figures at a discount, from Assault Publishing before he shut down his miniatures store. I think he's still offering his rules for sale, but no more miniatures.
A lot of the miniatures I bought were Oddzial Osmy, the New Vistula Legion making up the majority. Amongst them I also got two packs of Zombies, a pack of Reporters/News Crew. Some Space Worms, some of the PMC 2640 range of figures Observers, Combat Engineers and Recon Team, and finally several packs of Insurgents.
You'll notice that I stopped unbagging them about halfway down, I needed a break from filing. These miniatures are made of a comparatively hard metal, the bases needed to be filed, because I could not trim the flash from the underside oft he base with my hobby knife. The metal is quite hard compared to that used by GZG, Brigade or other manufacturers I've bought from. It's brittle but still fairly strong, so I wouldn't try bending an arm to achieve a unique pose, it would break under that kind of pressure.
Also the figures are comparatively short, I compared some to some oft he GZG miniatures I have, while it is noticeable, it's nothing that can't be explained away by gravity, diet or some other similar reasoning.
Let's start with the Reporters/News Crew.
The next two shots are comparisons of the previous two with a GZG Armoured Police figure and a FreeTrader Crew member (Not-Zoe), the reporters and insurgents are noticeably shorter, but not by much.
The next three images are of the PMC 2640 range.
The Space Worms come in two packs one with standard weapons mounts and the other with support weapons mounts.
There are two Zombie packs, each contains 6 unique poses of zombie.
It wasn't until I unpacked the Hissari that I realised they were meant to represent Power Armour. They're somewhat taller than the other miniatures in the range and come with a sort of spiky backpack, possibly a grav or jump pack. The miniatures have a space in the back that the packs are glued to, if you don't want to add the packs then you will need to fill the space with something like green stuff or some other modelling putty, because leaving it as is looks weird. (note: I should have left one of the packs off to show you what I mean, but forgot).
The remainder were New Vistula Legion (NVL) and they came in packs containing 6 miniatures each. Unfortunately Assault Publishing didn't have a few of the range's packs, so I had to order them from Picoarmor in the U.S. The NVL miniatures range includes a host of figures with various support weapons, nearly all of which are sculpted with the standard small arm (a very compact assault weapon) slung over a shoulder, in addition to the actual support weapon being wielded by the figure. This being so, I've only ordered one of each pack.
This is where I got lazy and left them in their bags.

Let's start with the Reporters/News Crew.
This pack holds 6 figures, two of each of the above figures. A cameraman, a reporter and a photographer.
The insurgents packs each had 6 miniatures per pack. There were two packs with assault rifles (each miniature was unique), the leaders pack had two of each pose, as did the LMG and RPG packs.
I organised these packs into teams of 5 with one team leader, one RPG, one LMG and two riflemen.
The next two shots are comparisons of the previous two with a GZG Armoured Police figure and a FreeTrader Crew member (Not-Zoe), the reporters and insurgents are noticeably shorter, but not by much.
The next three images are of the PMC 2640 range.
The Observer pack has two each of three different poses, a drone operator w/drone, prone observer, and a kneeling observer in yowie suit.
This four man Recon Team is actually made up of miniatures from the NVL Scout pack shown later.
Combat Engineers: one guy kneeling w/bolt cutters, another with some type of GL (rear right), another brandishing a pistol and entrenching tool, plus three others with either energy or flame weapons.
The Space Worms come in two packs one with standard weapons mounts and the other with support weapons mounts.
Space Worms w/standard weapon mounts
Space Worms w/support weapon mounts
There are two Zombie packs, each contains 6 unique poses of zombie.
Pack one has your standard zombies, including the most terrifying of all: the Zombie Clown.
This pack contains what appears to be somewhat smarter zombies as these guys are holding things, like sticks, bats and a head.

This pack contains 6 figures in slightly different poses, all with a standard firearm.
This pack contains 6 figures in three different poses, including two leaders w/standard firearms, and four troopers with what appear to be AMRs.

These guys carry a LAW as well as the standard small arm and you can see a machete on the pack oft he leftmost figure.
Two each of three poses, one of which wears a yowie suit
I'm currently working on the assumption that the heavy rifle is a designated marksman's rifle.
This is where I got lazy and left them in their bags.
These six figures two of each pose have extra pouches/satchels, etc., some carry vision aids and some carry tablets/datapads.
This pack contains two HMG's or AGL's witha two man crew each. The gunner wears a sidearm, but the assistant gunner carries a slung standard assault weapon.
This pack has three of two poses, making up three MANPAD teams, the MANPAD gunner carries a slung standard assault weapon in addition to his MANPAD, the observer does too.
This pack contains two railguns each with a two man crew and like the HMG pack the gunner wears a sidearm and his assistant carries a standard assault weapon.
Three each of two poses, provides three ATGM teams, the ATGM gunner is wearing a sidearm, while his assistant is carrying a standard assault weapon. The assistant is clearly also aiming the target designator for the ATGM.
Two of three poses, these scouts are all armed with standard assault weapons, but two wear camouflage capes and the other four are wearing capes with additional camouflage added. All wear vision aids of some type.
This pack contains two mortars each with a two man crew, the kneeling figure sports a slung standard assault weapon, while the standing figure appears to be unarmed but is holding what looks like a mortar round of some sort. His left hand is covering some sort of device, which is plugged into some cables running to a small bumpack he is wearing. He seems to be holding the device over the nose of the mortar round. Perhaps it is some sort of arming device. Not having any actual experience with mortars, I've only got a vague notion of how they prepare the rounds before firing.
When my other NVL packs arrive from Picoarmor I'll update this.
Update: Sorry, I forgot to comment on the detail or lack of it, for these miniatures. Despite, or perhaps because of, the harder emtal there is a fair amount of detail on these figures. They sport well defined web gear, additional camouflage, yowie suits, vision aids etc. Sidearms and melee weapons are clearly evident on some of the poses. Overall I'd say the quality is pretty good and while the miniatures are noticeably smaller than some other miniatures in my collection, it's not a deal breaker.

AP made great quality miniatures. I really like best the insurgent line!
ReplyDeleteThey are pretty cool, I'm going to use mine to represent the countless ongoing insurgencies within the Spinward Marches in Traveller.
