1,001 Characters #25: The Hebbe Sisters
25. The Hebbe Sisters
The Hebbe sisters are twins, born on V'Sheyangi, and before you ask, no, they do not follow Underdome. The girls were raised by their father. He was a rabid Underdome fan and had little time for the girls. This meant that the girls learned to rely on each other, for the support and guidance they needed. When they were old enough to leave home they did so without a backward glance. Signing on aboard a merchant ship, the "Grandpa's Groove", shortly after they turned eighteen. The two served aboard the "Groove" for almost sixteen years, before a hijacking attempt would end their career.
Note: See each sisters individual entry for specifics of their time aboard ship.
After their escape from the hijacked ship, they were saved by another Free Trader responding to their emergency beacon. Dimaa got full medical treatment at the best hospital Anella could afford. When the story unfolded (sans any mention of the jump route), the kid was hired by their rescuer.
With Dimaa out of hospital, the sisters are now looking for a new ship, they'll happily crew someone else's ship but would definitely prefer their own. They have no idea where "Grandpa's Groove" jumped to and assume it has misjumped. They share a hatred of pirates and mercs, and would enjoy paying back either or both, as well as whoever sent them.
Dimaa Hebbe 86589A ex-Merchant 4th Officer Age 34 4 Terms
Skills: Navigation-3, Vacc Suit-1, Air/raft-1, Carbine-1.
Benefits: Cr31,000, Low Psge
Dimaa was originally trained as a navigator (Navigation-1). She enjoyed going EVA and quickly gained expertise with vacc suits (Vacc Suit-1). She was commissioned as a 4th Officer and taught advanced navigation (Navigation-2).
During their second term Dimaa spent a lot of time behind the wheel of an air/raft, delivering medical supplies and ferrying Anella to and from wherever the locals needed medical assistance (Air/raft-1).
Continuing to serve aboard the Grandpa's Groove, Dimaa spent considerable time and effort on trying to plot new jump routes, she did not have much success, only plotting one previously unknown jump route, but she did learn a lot more about navigation (Navigation-3).
Continued use of the new jump route attracted unwanted attention from rivals and ne'er do wells, and several times the crew had to defend themselves personally, Dimaa went so far as to get a boyfriend to teach her small arms skills (Carbine-1). But as it turned out her "boyfriend' was actually working for pirates who wanted the new jump route data. The pirates managed to get several of their number aboard disguised as passengers. Shortly before jump they attempted to hijack the ship. Unbeknownst to both the pirates and the Groove's crew the rest of the passengers were an elite team of mercenaries hired by one of the big merchant lines after the same data. The resulting chaos broke down into a horrific firefight in the confines of the ship, Dimaa was seriously injured while defending the bridge (Ageing: -1 STR and -1DEX).

Anella Hebbe 98589A ex-Merchant 4th Officer Age 34 4 Terms
Skills: Gunnery-2, Medical-3, Jack of Trades-1,
Benefits: None
Anella was originally trained to operate the newly installed turrets and their weaponry (Gunnery-1). She also proved good at problem solving and quickly developed a knack for unorthodox solutions (Jack of Trades-1). She was commissioned as a 4th Officer and trained as the ship's medic (Medical-1).
The Grandpa's Groove spent a lot of time transporting medical supplies to underdeveloped worlds and while her sister delivered a lot of those supplies, Anella helped local medical personnel get a handle on how to use them and often assisted them to administer those supplies (Medic-2).
While Dimaa's new jump route proved useful, it also proved somewhat dangerous with pirate attacks being more frequent. Anella sharpened her gunnery skills during several running battles with pirates, (Gunnery-2).
While Dimaa was learning how to cause bigger and more lethal injuries, Anella finally completed her advanced medical courses and qualified as a surgeon (Medical-3, plus DEX 8+).
Anella managed to stay out of the line of fire during most of the firefight aboard the groove. But she was near the bridge when Dimaa was injured, and was able to drag her into the ship's locker where she managed to stabilise her condition. By then, the bridge had been taken by the mercs. Trapped on a hijacked ship Anella needed to get her sister away from these mercs, or pirates, or whoever they were, but she had no idea how. The answer came, surprisingly from inside her hiding place, a scared little voice offered her a way out. A teenage boy, had been hiding in the locker the whole time. Apparently he'd smuggled himself aboard and when the battle started he just stayed put. Anella had been talking to herself the whole time she was in the locker so the kid understood what had happened and the situation they were in. His suggestion was to suit up and leave the ship via the airlock adjacent to the locker. They could then hope for a pick up by another ship or failing that use the emergency re-entry kits he was hiding behind to reach the planet's surface. Luckily for Anella the kid appeared to know what he was doing with vacc suits and helped get her and Dimaa suited up. She gave Dimaa a shot of medical slow drug before she was suited up. Then the two of them managed to somehow carry Dimaa and the re-entry kits to the airlock without being discovered. Her concern that the mercs/pirates would notice their escape and come after them were made irrelevant when they saw what looked like an explosion or gunfire through the bridge viewports, followed almost immediately by the ship jumping who knows where.

Referee: Where the "Grandpa's Groove" ended up is up to the referee, it definitely misjumped, but did it return to real space? and if so where? Does the new jump route data still reside in the ships data banks? or does Dimaa have a copy? or can she re-plot the course? Are the pirates and/or the big merchant line still chasing that data? and if so are they aware that the sisters escaped the ship? All questions I leave up to the referee.
The sisters themselves are twins, identical or not, they each have their own identity, but they also share that special bond between twins, whether that gives them some advantages is up to the referee or player(s).
