Galactic Astrographic World Encyclopaedia: Cephei VI
Cephei VI is
an independent balkanised world in The Void subsector of the Auzhan
Sector within known space. Cephei VI has a class A starport (surface
installation only), with refined fuel available. Annual maintenance
overhaul is available. A shipyard (Zhi-Sobcheva Yards) capable of
constructing starships and non-starships up to 3000 tons is present.
There are several small squadron sized Naval bases attached to the
starport. The world has no native life. Population is approximately 500
thousand.
Formerly a pirate haven, Cephei VI is still known as one of the Sword Worlds.
The
captains of several pirate ships cooperated to build a haven, where
their crews could rest and their ships could be refitted and repaired.
This required infrastructure and support personnel, and these were
imported, sometimes forcibly, but more often incentives were offered.
Gradually the fledgling pirate society became a more ordered peaceful
society. Today the society is divided into five major factions, which
are still known as squadrons, each maintains a small fleet of military
and civilian ships. There are currently five squadrons known as Rapier,
Broadsword, Spear, Pike and Halberd, each maintains a single Type C
Mercenary Cruiser and two Type T Patrol Cruisers; a new sixth squadron,
Blade, operates a single Type T Patrol Cruiser and has contracts with
the Zhi-Sobcheva shipyards to construct a Merc Cruiser (88% complete)
and construction has just started on another Patrol Cruiser (6%
complete). The squadron's supporting factions are known as
Swashbucklers, Knights, Hoplites, Phalangites, Halberdiers, and
Legionaries, respectively.
Cepheian
ships can be found patrolling the systems rimward of the Void; there
are no squadron specific areas, and ships from different squadrons can
be found in any of the systems patrolled. The factions and squadrons
cooperate and support one another, despite there being a long history of
rivalry (usually friendly) between them.
From
Cephei VI there are five known jump routes within the
subsector. These are Jump 1 to Queensland or Neith, Jump 2 to Telmun
or Vr’Sari, and a rarely used Jump 4 to Horwan.
